Absolutely brutal.Starz will begin to say farewell to Spartacus in January. In the end, the fight is something of a victory lap, the twist being that Crassus had engineered their deaths at the cost of a clutch of his own men. There’s also the matter of what Spartacus has become since we last saw him. As he navigates the violent and brutal world he realizes that not all battles are fought in the arena, and that he must overcome treachery and temptation to survive. However, this episode isn’t just about fighting. Torn from his homeland and separated from the woman he loves, Spartacus is forced into slavery and condemned to the bloody gladiators arena in Rome.
Flashback to 22 November 2009 and my preview/review of Episode 2 How many men would. But with Spartacus planning to fight all of Rome, if he must, it doesn’t take a genius to know where this is going. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Another shows Gannicus musing over the nature of vengeance and forgiveness, warning Spartacus that one is far less important than the other, especially when there’s only one person who can forgive Spartacus: himself.I just had to smile at that.
